LiDAR for Wind Turbine Control

In this product sheet FT Technologies describes how a new product from Windar Photonics is able to improve the efficiency of wind turbines by 3 to 5%. The LiDAR sensor is mounted on the top of the nacelle and “looks” out the oncoming wind to optimize the position of the blade yaw. It measures the wind at 70 m from the blades. This can also reduce stress on the turbine improving the product life by up to 10%.

Meridian Assoc. has completed 14 wind turbine projects. Wind is hopefully a critical component of the world’s energy policy.
