DIY Mobile Laser Scanning System

Mobile-mapping-1-300x169Here’s a link to a post on the FARO Europe blog which explains the building of a do it yourself mobile laser scanning system based on the Focus 3D. A group of students from Stuttgart University looked at different IMU’s, but in the end chose the POS LV220 from Applanix.

“The bike trailer has several advantages; it is a ‘green’ solution and it can access many more locations than a car. I scanned an old church in the pedestrian zone in Stuttgart within a couple of minutes. This would take an hour if you would scan it statically.” explained Ann-Kathrin Kinscher, an intern at FARO Europe. Makes a lot of sense.
