World’s Smallest Safety Laser Scanner

SICK AG is the undisputed market leader for safety laser scanners used for the prevention of personal accidents on machines. Recently CyberMedia reported that Sick had announced the world’s smallest safety laser scanner – the S300 Mini. The overall dimensions are approximately 100 mm on each side or about a 4 in. cube.

Because of its extremely compact design the S300 Mini offers automation engineers incredible flexibility to use the scanner to improve machine performance and increase the safety of the operators.

In the standard operation mode the range of the 270° protective field is 2m, within which a triple field set can be programmed with one protective field and two warning fields. In the remote mode with the aid of the Flexi-Soft safety controller it is possible to realise up to 16 triple field sets and up to 32 monitoring cases – in other words, ideal e.g. for FTS applications and for unmanned forklifts, as well as for stationary danger areas with alternating protective field dimensions.

Yet another important application of laser scanning that is not very well known.
