Year in Infrastructure 2018

Bentley has been sponsoring the Year in Infrastructure conference for a number of years now, and each year it gets bigger and better. It honors their customers for the hard work and in some cases incredible achievements that they have made planning, designing, constructing  and supporting the operation of some of the leading infrastructure projects worldwide.

As a juror for the Reality Capture category I can tell you there were over 50 projects submitted from around the world. In most cases the customer was using Bentley’s ContextCapture software to photograph the real world and turn those images into 3D models, largely automatically.

Applicants submit their entries for a category that they select in the spring. The jurors then review all entries and somehow select the top three – it is very difficult. These companies are invited to London for the Year in Infrastructure week, all expenses paid to present their project to the jurors and the attendees. The jurors then meet again to make their final selection. The awards are then made at a black tie gala on the final evening of the conference. Some of the winners are so proud of their accomplishment that they are in tears.

In addition to the Year in Infrastructure awards activity there are also a number of executive presentations from the senior staff at Bentley which provide important insight into the future roadmap of the company. Some of the topics include BIM, constructioneering, reality modeling, 4D iproject delivery, geotechnical engineering – the list is a long one. Partner Industry experts are invited to make presentations on their new technology. There is also a Technology Pavilion where you can get answers to your questions and see the new software in action.

It’s a valuable week of learning and engagement at the Year in Infrastructure awards. Too bad it overlaps with InterGEO.
