I doubt I can present this with the same impact as when I heard it live, but a very funny guy Curtis Clabaugh from the Wyoming DOT told a little story at the recent TRB AFB80 meeting. He was filling out a questionnaire on mobile laser scanning and had some questions. So he called Mike Olsen at Oregon State, the PI for the project to clear things up.
After 1o minutes or so Curtis says things were not going so well, in fact he was getting more confused when he realized, “He was in the wrong cloud.” Mike was talking about THE cloud and Curtis thought he was talking about POINT clouds.
In any case the meeting wrapped up with an action item to develop 2 sessions for the winter TRB meeting. These will be around the topic of the 3D revolution in geospatial data and how this impacts the DOTs.
