The Power of Visualization

I found the embedded video of a canal bridge to be an excellent example of the power of visualization. The video was created using just Pointools. No CAD modeling was done. The credit goes to Robert Pettener at Survey Operations for this high quality example of the value and power of working directly with the point cloud in 3D.

Often I think those of us in the industry lose sight (no pun intended) of the value of visualization. The average non-technical person would gain so much from just seeing this video. When this is combined with the ability to interrogate the object with powerful design grade tools, you have the best of both worlds.

For those of you who have not had the responsibility of capturing this level of detailed information in the field with traditional survey equipment, one point at a time, it may seem like just another 3D video scene, but try to duplicate this with a total station.

On a personal note I will be “gone fishing” for a few days next week, but I will return.
