Mobile Mapping Guidelines

fdotThe Florida Department of Transportation has developed a document entitled “Terrestrial Mobile Lidar Surveying and Mapping Guidelines.” It was released in March of 2015. It was adapted from the CALTRANS Survey Manual 2011 and the NCHRP report #748 which has been the subject of a number of blog posts.

FDOT is encouraging the use of mobile lidar and in some districts is including the point cloud data in the design packages that are going out to bid. This is certainly a step in the right direction and hopefully a preview of things to come.

  1. Hi,

I am in charge of mobile lidar operations at Quebec DOT. We scan the whole network on a 3-year cycle since 2002 (lidar since 2010). We own and operate 2 systems.

What are the states and provinces using mobile lidar (own / outsource) ?

    Thanks

      Hello Frederic,

It is a combination of owning and outsourcing with the latter being in the majority. Most states do not have a complete database and are working project by project. I will send you an email to discuss further. Thanks for the info.
