LiDAR System Hack, ROS Software and the Arduino

I am not claiming that I could do this, but at the same time I sometimes wonder what the point of these 1 hour hacks of a LiDAR sensor actually proves. I guess you have to be a hacker to appreciate it. This project did, however, expose a couple of new and potentially important topics.

The first is ROS – robot operating system software, which appears to be an open source project and organization. The second is the term arduino.

What’s an arduino? Glad you asked. Arduino is a tool for making computers that can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It’s an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board, and a development environment for writing software for the board.

So from this video I think I have uncovered what seems to me to be two new ( in my world) and pretty valuable open source technology platforms for our industry. Thanks to Gavin Smith for the leads.
