Lidar Mandatory in India

As reported in the Times of India the road ministry has made it mandatory to use light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology to conduct feasibility studies for all highway projects. There’s nothing like a good old fashioned mandate to speed up the adoption of new technology – BRAVO!

Sources said road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari signed the order to use this technology for preparing better projects so that these can be completed within deadlines and there is no cost overrun. “Poor feasibility studies have huge repercussions during construction phase of any project. Feasibility study forms a major part of the project life cycle. Better and accurate reports are key for execution,” said a road ministry official.
