LiDAR Data and Privacy

Not only is there a growing concern about privacy issues involving the use of LiDAR and cameras on a UAS platform, but in this article from GPS World the author points to similar concerns with regards to autonomous vehicles.

She notes, “All sorts of ambient information may be captured. Perhaps activity outside of your house, or your kids on their way to school, or the licenses of cars in your driveway will be caught on camera.”

It looks like all of the sensors will be lumped together, but it would seem to me that LiDAR should have a strong case at least versus cameras that it does not pose as much of a threat and should be regulated differently. Wishful thinking, most likely.
