LiDAR Assists with Characterization of Alpine Tree Line

A group of researchers from Canada and Switzerland used airborne LiDAR and physiological modeling to better understand how climate is affecting the alpine tree line. Understanding how environmental drivers control the position of the alpine tree line is important for refining our understanding of plant stress and tree development, as well as for climate change studies.

Tree cover, rather than tree height is the main discriminator of the tree line at higher elevations.
