I am in California attending the Leica HDS User Conference – one of the outstanding laser scanning events of the year. It looks like Geoff Jacobs, Senior VP of Marketing has put together another 3 day blend of user presentations and Leica staff technical sessions.
Geoff runs a tight ship when it comes to this conference- he reviews each of the presentations and requires that the presenters, who come from around the globe provide the details of “how” they make use of laser scanning technology on their projects.
Monday’s session opens with a Management Perspective from the worldwide CEO Juergen Dold. I am hoping to hear what the plans are for the integration with Intergraph. There will also be a presentation on Leica’s pcE or point cloud Engine that is now being used in Cyclone.
User presentations include sessions on construction, forensics, forestry and mobile mapping. The luncheon keynote speaker is Doug Pritchard from the Glasgow School of Design. Doug and his team laser scanned Mt. Rushmore this summer. I have seen some of the imagery from this effort – spectacular.
I will try to send a few tweets during the day.
