I had the opportunity to speak with Ken Mooyman, the NAFTA President for Hexagon Geosystems last week concerning the recent Autodesk collaboration that was announced at HxGN Live.
From the press release this may seem like just another one of those joint marketing agreements, but based on the discussion with Ken this deal has the support of senior management on both sides. Quite simply this agreement has the potential to pair two of the industry leaders – 0ne in software and the other in sensors in such a way that the customer stands to see true systems integration.
The initial offering is going to allow users to import native point cloud data from the industry-leading Leica ScanStation P16 directly into Autodesk ReCap software for a streamlined, simplified workflow. There is also an integration that is taking place between the ICON 50 total station and BIM 360 for construction layout, but much more is being planned.
Stay tuned for additional information and please let me know what you think.
