HAER Employs Laser Scanning and kubit

In 1969, the National Park Service (NPS), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Library of Congress established the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) to create a permanent documentary record of the nation’s engineering and industrial legacy.

This article explains how HAER is using 3D laser scanning, AutoCAD, and kubit to document the history of the built environment in America. It may not be on the level of the cultural heritage projects from ancient civilizations but as a civil engineer these projects are as much a part of the US history as any aspect of the human condition.

Kudos to all involved with this effort.
