Froebel Gifts

Friedrich Froebel invented kindergarten in approximately 1837. I became aware of this and of Froebel gifts, which are wooden blocks as a result of this outstanding article by Paul Tice. Turns out as you will see in the video that Froebel used the blocks to teach young children about 3D.

He believed that the first step in learning was a progressive process that began with perception. I think there are some very important lessons that we can all learn from Froebel’s approach to education.

Amazing how an individual, had so much influence in children education! And how we still use efectively so little of it’s findings in the mainstream education. A personality that should be more know.
