Direct Georeferencing

Just a quick mention of a potentially important article by Ahmed Mohamed and Benjamin Wilkinson, entitled Direct Georeferencing where they argue for the use of a dual GPS antenna apparatus to more efficiently geo-locate a tripod-mounted scanner. This they claim can eliminate the need for ground control.

To those who celebrate Christmas, I wish you and your family a happy holiday.

  1. Chad says:

“Simulation and real world field experimentation of the prototype implementation suggest a precision of about 0.05 degrees (~1 milli-radian) for the three orientation angles.”

Wouldn’t that half a degree add up pretty quickly when you’re using a tof scanner?
