Calculating the Value of LiDAR for Energy Site Selection

Despite the fact that the author claims the services of a surveyor are no longer needed for site selection when you use LiDAR data (???) this is an informative 3D Visualization World article. It looks what the author is referring to is the idea that LiDAR data can provide a great deal of information about potential sites, which can reduce the need for on the ground surveys – I can buy that.

Not only has the energy industry embraced LiDAR data, but the Alberta Government is also helping by introducing the Enhanced Approval Process, which among other things, gave the oil and gas companies the ability to submit  their well site plans for approval by using only LiDAR data to choose the location.

The cost comparison data is interesting and valuable documentation.
