All I Want for Christmas is a Laser Scanner

  1. The DAVID 3D Laserscanner is a low cost, build it yourself option.
  2. For approximately $500 (USD) you can purchase the starter kit.
  3. DAVID Vision Systems is making their presence known –¬†worldwide.

For those of us who can’t afford to spend the $50k (USD) and up, there is an alternative. It’s the DAVID 3D Laserscanner from DAVID Vision Systems, located in Koblenz, Germany. Well it’s not exactly an equal substitute for the new Leica C10, but for approximately $500 (USD) you can get the DAVID Starter Kit. The kit contains everything you need to build your own 3D laser scanner. Now that sounds like a fun project for the holiday season if you have a child that is the right age.

This all may seem a bit far fetched, but the company actually has quite a loyal following as evidenced by the Wiki found on their website. For certain applications, with the right team of people the results can be “close enough”. There is no doubt that this a serious company managed by a team of well-educated professionals.

If anyone has experience with this technology please let us know what it is capable of doing.
