3D LiDAR Topography – Before and After Irene

Hurricane Irene hit the Outer Banks of North Carolina in August of this year. A NOAA-USGS airborne lidar survey of post-storm topography was completed August 28, 2011 along the North Carolina coast to detect coastal change resulting from Hurricane Irene. This same area had been mapped before the hurricane hit.

The analysis provides a very informative look at the use of LiDAR to asses damage and coastal zone impact.
