Using Laser Scanning to Automate the Dairy Farm

Unless you have worked on a farm , in my case it was six years on a chicken farm, you may not appreciate the value of this post. Although I did not ever milk a cow I have been around milking parlors enough to know it is hard work and not all that pleasant, especially the smell. I don’t know which is worse chickens or cows, but trust me you can always tell a dairy farmer.

Anyway, this recent NY Times article provides a really cool inside look at the automation that is taking place in the dairy industry. They are using laser scanning to milk the cows.

Thanks to Bill Gutelius for his diverse links.
