The United States Geological Survey – the USGS has been analyzing the changes to the barrier islands off the coast of Alabama and Louisiana caused by the recent hurricane. In this article they present their preliminary findings by comparing pre- and post- Hurricane Isaac LiDAR derived digital elevation models to determine hurricane-induced coastal changes, such as beach erosion, overwash deposition, and island breaching.
