In most situations involving laser scanning the objects of interest are not moving. We have kinematic solutions that provide for the scanner moving, but what about the case where the scanner is in a fixed position with the object, let’s say a large ship or a lighter than air vehicle being dynamic?
Currently if the object moves during the scan the results are a blurred point cloud. Dr. Bharat Lohani, Associate Professor at IIT Kanpur, India has come up with a patent pending software solution to this problem that will be detailed in the next LiDAR Magazine. In the meantime, I wanted to pose this problem to see what ideas you may have for a solution. What do you think?
