This UNAVCO project involved the use of TLS to investigate the geology of the wild west sounding Handcart Gulch region of Colorado. Handcart Gulch, named for the handcarts that Colorado miners used to pull outfits up the steep valley walls, was a rowdy area that reached its peak in 1876-77 with several hundred miners in the area.
The TLS work in this region will create a detailed map and characterization that will shed light on its glacial geomorphology and provide insight into temperate-latitude rock glaciers and their causes of deformation, whether through changes in precipitation related to climate change or other factors.
