SPAR 2010 – A Look at the Agenda

  1. Spar 2010 has an agenda that offers something for everyone.
  2. Mobile and Scan to BIM appear to be the top tracks.
  3. Add the exhibits and the networking and the ROI is going to be hard to beat.

This year’s Spar 2010 Conference is going to include something for everyone, whether you are new to laser scanning or a seasoned veteran. The conference will take place in The Woodlands (Houston), TX, February 7 – 10, 2010.

On Sunday the Boot Camps will offer those new to laser scanning a chance to hear from the pros about best practices that can really move you up on the learning curve.

On Monday the keynotes include Dr. Allan Carswell, Chairman at Optech Inc., who will discuss their support for a NASA mission to Mars and Paul Feist, Commander, Albuquerque Police Dept., who will discuss the use of laser scanning at a mass murder crime scene.

The tracks, starting Monday afternoon, include Industrial Plant, Security and Forensics, and Mobile. At last count I believe there will be at least 7 mobile mapping vehicles on display at the conference. There are a number of outstanding international speakers on the agenda Monday and throughout the conference.

On Tuesday, a “Scan to BIM” track will kick off and run all day. Mobile and Security/Forensics will return as well as a New Technology track, Civil, Geotechnical/Mining and data management. NIST will also host a BIM workshop on Tuesday to collect some market research.

Spar 2010 will wrap up on Wednesday morning with Plant, Historic Preservation and Security. Your author will be part of an ASTM standards update session where we hope to announce the soon to be balloted data interoperability standard. There will also be user group meetings for FARO and Z & F.

Add to this the exhibits and networking and it seems fair to say that you will certainly get your money’s worth at SPAR 2010.
