AUVSI is predicting that precision agriculture will be the biggest domestic market for UAVs. As I noted in a previous blog post the promise of precision ag has been around since GPS became widely available in the early 1990’s. It just may be that UAVs could be the missing link.
In fact, we should begin to see some results soon as the FAA has granted farmers permission to use UAVs on their own land. I don’t think most people are aware of this.
One priority guideline from the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics)… “(c) Not fly higher than approximately 400 feet above ground level within three (3) miles of an airport without notifying the airport operator.”
This is certainly an opportunity to get one’s feet wet.
