- Jeff Kowalski, CTO at Autodesk included a point cloud animation in his presentation.
- This can be seen via Autodesk University Virtual – a bit of a gamble on the part of Autodesk.
- The reference to automated feature extraction caught my attention.
Jeff Kowalski, CTO at Autodesk had a number of positive comments about the future integration of point cloud data and AutoCAD during today’s opening keynote speech at AU – Autodesk University. He started out with a plug for the Faro scanner that was used to record one of the areas in the hotel, and then showed a video animation of the point cloud data that had been collected.
All of this is available via AUv – Autodesk University Virtual, which we were told had 16,000 people from around the world logged in for the keynote. You can sign up for a number of free as well as for fee presentations. Given the state of the economy the decision to go virtual was a wise one, I think. It will be interesting to see what the long term effects of this will be.
If I heard things correctly it sounded like Autodesk was hard at work with the integration of point cloud data into AutoCAD, and perhaps other graphics engines. In addition, there was a reference to automatically extracting features from point clouds, which will certainly be of interest to many of us. I am going to see if I can find out more about that.
In general, it certainly seems fair to say that point cloud data and laser scanning is on Autodesk’s LiDAR, I mean radar.
