- Unlimited Detail claims to have software that is capable of producing 3D graphics without the need for special hardware.
- The technology is based on the use of a point cloud search algorithm.
- The graphics card manufacturers are skeptical, but the video offers some valuable insights.
A recent Wired UK article reports on the work being done by Unlimited Detail to use point clouds as the basis for a breakthrough in 3D computer graphics. Rather than relying on advances in hardware graphics card technology for increased speed in processing polygons, Unlimited Detail CEO Bruce Dell claims to have developed a point cloud search algorithm that effectively provides unlimited 3D performance.
The graphics card manufacturers are skeptical, as you would imagine, but in theory he provides a convincing argument, albeit the graphics in the following video don’t seem that impressive. Of course there are a number of unknowns that would need to be documented.
Arrogant sounding, but if it’s truly operational then we need to see it.
