- The consumer market for scanning is starting to make its move.
- eSoles and Pressure Profiling Systems have developed the world’s most advanced foot scanning kiosk.
- This is the perfect time to think outside the box.
I have not been intentionally avoiding the consumer side of the laser scanning business. I think a lot of us have either heard, or seen the Radiohead music video, but just in case:
I was in the audience, back in the late 80′s when the CEO of a leading survey equipment manufacturer vowed to never let his company get involved with that “low cost” consumer market for GPS. Garmin grew to be many times the size of that company.
I have to keep this short as I am headed to the ASPRS conference, but this is just too interesting to pass up. Two companies have joined forces to create the world’s most advanced foot scanning kiosk. eSoles is providing the scanning system and Pressure Profiling Systems the tactile technology. Now we’re walkin, I mean talkin. Have a look.
I don’t believe that scanning will find the consumer applications that GPS has, but I would love to be wrong. Velodyne’s vision is to have a scanner on every vehicle in the world. That could change things.
I’ll be reporting from ASPRS.

The Workshop # 2 on Monday March 9, 2009, with Andrew Brenner, PH.D, was most informative. I will look forward to to additional contacrts as to how the Sanborn Systems will assist local govenments to establish development regulations and monitor efforts to expand private property open space and carbon bonding with tree coverage. I hope to report to Martin County Florida the benefits experienced in the example communities provided.
