The innovation continues to come out of the San Francisco Bay area. This time it is a start-up using lidar to monitor construction projects with robots and AI. Doxel came out of stealth this week with a US $4.5 million funding round. Their business is making construction more efficient and their technology is combining massive amounts of data with deep learning techniques.
This sounds like a similar approach to what Civil Maps is doing to create the base maps for autonomous vehicles. The keys are being able to process the large amounts of data in a very short amount of time and then to automatically compare the design to the as-found conditions.
In Doxel’s case I would be concerned with the security of their robots and I would love to know what the assumed liability is in these products and services.
