LiDAR Used to Create Virtual Brisbane

AAM Pty Ltd is an international geospatial firm that has built a number of 3D models for major cities in Australia and around the world. Their latest project was the development of “Virtual Brisbane”.

Virtual Brisbane is a centrally-located master record of all urban development activity in this beautiful Australian city. It includes more than 100,000 structures in a 5km radius of the central business district and is the largest 3D city model in the southern hemisphere.

AAM used a combination of airborne LiDAR and imagery from Pictometry, a US firm that specializes in oblique aerial photography. It would be interesting to know more about the details of the workflows used to combine these 2 data sources. If anyone has experience with this data fusion approach please let us know.
