Looking for a lower cost alternative to laser scanning? Leddar Tech is offering a new type of sensor that works like LiDAR except it uses infrared light from LEDs to make the time of flight measurements, hence the name LEDDAR. The unit does not scan, in fact it has no moving parts. It has 16 active elements that can make measurements in the entire light beam. Sounds like FLASH LiDAR, but there is not an array. It provides both distance and angular measurements.
Looks like it is being targeted at industrial applications such as robotics, but at under $2,000 with a range of up to 50 meters this technology holds a lot of promise.
