You have to watch this video – just click on the link below. Researchers at UCAL Berkeley have an incredible idea on their backs with this one. It is not the technology, but the application that is really impressive.
I am sure there is some additional commercialization to be done, but this has the potential to open up some new laser scanning opportunities, both indoors and out.
Now this is mobile mapping.
It’s already being done commercially. This is a university project that replicates what several companies are doing on a much larger scale with higher end technology. It shows a good understanding of some basic concepts of lidar data collection but it’s not an original idea and it doesn’t have a robust software environment to support it. A great demo though.
