- Hexagon, parent of Leica Geosystems acquired Intergraph this week.
- Part of the strategic vision is the full time fusion of laser scanned data with the Intergraph CAD and GIS applications.
- This is certainly going to change the competitive landscape.
In case you did not see the news, Hexagon AB, the parent company of Leica Geosystems acquired Intergraph – a leader in the plant design market. As part of a detailed presentation to investors by Hexagon CEO Olla Rollen he laid out a grand plan for the fusion of laser scanning and “full time” plant and asset analysis using Intergraph’s software applications as the presentation layer.
An interesting side angle to this story is the fact that Intergraph owns approximately 30% of Bentley Systems. Some speculate that they may sell this to help finance the deal, but I wonder if there would not be more value in a closer relationship between point cloud data and Microstation.
In any case this is certainly going to have a major impact in the marketplace, and it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out over the next 3 to 5 years.
