- GreenScan 3DĀ is into scanningĀ championship golf course greens for TV productions.
- The digital scans are used as input to a software called AimPoint that predicts the putt path.
- GreenScan’s owner Scott Pool won an Emmy for his work.
Using a Leica Scanstation Scott’s company scans the existing greens and then supplies this to a software product called AimPoint. Then, you guessed it, the software uses the detailed terrain model to predict the path the ball would have to take to go in the cup. The PGA has approved the software and it is now being used in its golf broadcasts.
In addition, Scott’s company also provides consulting services to golf courses that need to restore/replicate greens to their original, as-built configuration. Now I am not a golfer – too much of a head game for me, but if I were this would be the ultimate business to be in.
