The First Self Driving Vehicle

What year do you think the first self driving vehicle was launched? According to the researchers at Carnegie Mellon it was 1986 and it was called NavLab1, short for navigation laboratory. It literally required tons of gear to support the various systems which included lidar. A lot has changed in 30 years, but the basic concept is still the same.
