Coastal LiDAR and Radar Imaging System

CLARIS  -the Coastal LiDAR and Radar Imaging System is a unique remote sensing platform. It’s “main claim to fame” is its ability to record coastal zone processes during a storm. Prior to CLARIS it was not possible to record both changes to the shore as well as the ocean floor.

Developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers Coastal and Hydraulics Lab the snow cat-like vehicle serves as a very rugged platform for a terrestrial laser scanner and radar that is capable of simultaneously measuring changes in the topography and bathymetry during the height of a storm, such as Hurricane Earl in 2010.
