- Bentley and Pointools singed a Technology Transfer agreement in October 2009.
- This has the potential to be a major link between laser scanning and CAD.
- Bentley, Pointools and Spar Point will host a seminar on Thursday to preview the future integration.
On October 14, 2009, Bentley Systems Inc. announced that it had signed a “Continuous Technology Transfer Agreement” to incorporate Pointools’ Vortex Engine in the Bentley Technology Platform to enable reuse of 3D laser scanned data. This is potentially a very important development linking 3D laser scanning technology with one of the most important CAD platforms on the market. One of the reasons that this is of such interest is that Microstation is the common platform for all of Bentley’s software applications – Plant, BIM, Civil and more.
To learn more about the future plans for this agreement Bentley, Pointools and Spar Point Group are hosting a 30 minute webinar, entitled 3D Laser Scanning Workflow Integration on Thursday January 7, 2010 at 10 AM EST and 4 PM EST. As I will be participating it is hard for me to be completely unbiased, but I do think this could be a good 30 minute investment.
