Daqri is a 250 person start-up that has identified an augmented reality (AR) target market that unlike Google is not fashion dependent. If you don’t think that makes a difference then you only need to look at Google glass to see that it does.
Daqri started out as a software company, but soon came to realize that to deliver their product they had to get into the hardware business. They are targeting the industrial market where they plan to put the needed maintenance and repair information at the technician’s finger tips via a helmet that looks like a hard hat which in most cases the user will be required to wear based on general safety concerns.
I think they have a real shot at it and of course 3D data will be required to support the database.
