ASTM E57 Format Reference Implementations Released

The reference software implementations that support the reading and writing of the recently approved ASTM E57 data exchange format have been officially released. Version 1.0 can be found at the “libe57 website” along with supporting documentation/information.

The software implementations have been in use since early spring and are now in the process of being implemented by virtually all of the leading hardware and software vendors in the industry.

This effort is the result of 6+ years of hard work by a dedicated group of industry professionals. Many thanks to those who have invested their time in this effort.

If you would like to eliminate the time wasted in dealing with proprietary laser scan data formats it’s as easy as specifying that data be exchanged in ASTM E57. In the final analysis it is the end user of the data that is going to decide whether this standard will be adopted. The subcommittee needs your support to encourage your hardware/software vendors and service providers to take advantage of this powerful data exchange format.

It’s up to you to make it happen.
