ASPRS Mobile LiDAR Mapping Meeting

  1. The first ASPRS Mobile Mapping System Committee meeting will be held on April 27, 2010.
  2. Over 70 people have signed up.
  3. A number of important work areas are being proposed. Time is of the essence.

The inaugural meeting of  the ASPRS Mobile Mapping System (MMS) Committee will be held on April 27, 2010 from 4 t0 6 PM in San Diego, CA. This will be part of the ASPRS 2010 Annual Conference – an event where you can learn about the latest in university research and its application.

There are currently over 70 people who have expressed interest in being on the MMS committee. Lewis Graham from GeoCue is organizing the meeting. The proposed areas of interest include best practices, survey control, system calibration, accuracy standards and data processing, among others.

I am sure that a comment recently posted on the Laser Scanning Forum concerning a ban on mobile mapping above a speed of 20 mph will be a hot topic at the meeting. Being part of the ASTM E57 committee on 3D Imaging standards, the committee is going to have to move quickly if they want to have an impact.

One Response to ASPRS Mobile LiDAR Mapping Meeting

  1. Steve Lailey says:

As the originator of the aforementioned comment on Laser Scanning UK- can I make mention that this is still an unsubstanciated point and I am still appealing for information regarding the facts. However, there is relevancy because in general, its not always the case that survey professionals (myself included) make the policy regarding contract frameworks or get a say in the commisioning of surveys where ‘cutting edge’ technology may be applied. It is a statement as much about the culture that we have to integrate our survey products into. SL
