This Sunday May 16, 2010 will mark the 50th anniversary of the invention of the ruby laser. Dr. Theodore Maiman is credited with the invention, although the patent was in dispute for over 30 years. The part that I find the most interesting is that most people at first considered the ruby laser a solution looking for a problem – incredible.
It is hard to imagine today where we would be without the laser. Remember when the grocery check out clerk actually had to key in every item. Seems like an eternity ago.
