3D Sensors Going Mainstream

As Michael Raphael, founder of Direct Dimensions commented when he passed this link to me, “Love seeing 3D sensors in mainstream news.” In this case it’s PrimeSense’s Capri, which is 10x smaller than their current sensor, the 3D technology being used in the Kinect.

According PrimeSense President and founder Aviad Maizels there are a number of consumer electronics companies working on applications such as Matterport who is building a 3D scanner, but the really exciting potential is for these sensors to be included in mobile devices. Aviad would not provide the details but he hinted that one app might involve the rear-facing camera – hmmm.
